What have you done today??

Sorry its been so long since I've posted!!

...its probably because my eats havent been all that exciting...

accept this weekend :)

Anthony and I went to this great market called "John's Market". The
y have tons of fresh produce... at a really great price!!!

We got

3 Artichokes- 1 dollar!
1 Butternut squash- 50 cents!
1 Huge container of Shitaki mushrooms- 2 Dollars!
and that funny little guy in the back is a Yucca root!!- 50 cents!!

We ended up making Broiled Artichokes, and sauteed Mushrooms
 (anthony made himself fish)
..and I made this great Israili Cous Cous from Vegan Express (of course with my own twist)

A yummy home made meal :)

For lunch today
Today for lunch I made a sort of sandwich. I melted some rice cheese on a half of a gluten free wrap...it was super crunchy and yummy... and I topped it with avocado spread, sprouts, tomato, artichoke, and lettuce...

I LOVED IT!!!

Ok so now onto my title...

Ask yourself... What have you done today?
Ok clearly Im obsessed with THE BIGGEST LOSER! I swear to god that this show inspires me to work hard during my work outs...

These people are severely over weight. There are women on the show that are 5'4 and weigh over 300 lbs. That is a serious problem. Over time,... and with the help of their trainers the drop an amazing amount of weight. So when I work out... I ask myself... if someone more than twice my size can run three miles... why shouldn't I... and then I do.

Today I really pushed myself at the gym and I was happy. I have been running 3 miles at least 5 days a week... and today I pushed it to 4. I know it doesnt sound like all that much.. but to me it was an accomplishment. I also spent an hour on my arms...and 15 minutes on my abs and gave myself a great 10 minute stretch.

It is so easy to say.. "oh I'm tired"... "i just commuted from the city for an hour and a half and I want to relax.".."I spent my whole day at work...i deserve to take a nap"..."I have so much work to do"... "I have to.. I have to... I have to.." How many times have you said these exact things to yourself...Next time.. say "I deserve to spend some time on myself... to better the person I am.. and to help myself stay healthy."

...So... "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TODAY... TO MAKE YOU FEEL PROUD?"

I love The Biggest Loser too! I was so mad they had the second half on tonight instead of yesterday because I have class on Wed. nights. I hope they post the full episode online!

Aww awesome post, it really does put things into perspective! I never watch Biggest Loser anymore but I need to, it gives me motivation to get up off my butt right away! haha

And 4 miles is awesome. Heck, even 3 is awesome. And an hour on arms, WOW, I wish I knew enough arm workouts to even be able to spend that much time working on them haha

Haha in almost a complete counteraction on your post, on the way to coldstone earlier( for what they say is sinless) I drove past fitness incentive and thought, hey vegan on stage goes there.

And that really is awesome inspiration to work harder. I've thought the same thing about the women on the self challenge, or glamour.. with the monthly updates. People who've had horrible injuries or alot of weight to lose are working to run marathons, and i'm just sometimes, ladida. But if they can do it, why can't i.

Love that cous cous salad!

I completely agree with everything you said about working out, I won'tbetter myself at all by just siting around all day. I proud that I got in a 3.64 mile run today. :)

I love artichokes and The Biggest Loser..lol! I say the same thing to myself when I am working out (I usually watch it on the treadmill)..."If they can do it, I can do it!"

Are you kidding me?! 4 miles is amazing. You go, girl! I'm proud of myself because I committed to a 31 days of yoga challenge. That vegetable selection looks delicious. I love love love yucca root. It is great to peel it, boil it and then put lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and crushed garlic all over it. Cuban style! Yummy! I'm so jealous.

I really want to try artichokes! Dunno why those things intimidate me.

Awww, what an inspirational little post! You make some really good points! I'm not much of a runner either, but like you said, if a Biggest Loser contestant can do it, I know I can too! But then I mess up that good thinking but remembering that it is only every once in a while that I actually enjoy a run...I like other forms of exercise better. But 4 miles!!! That's awesome. Even 3 a day is awesome!! Go you!

Those broiled artichokes look so gourmet. Pretttty!

Ha! Now that song is in my head..."what have you done today to make you feel proud!"

Honestly, I haven't done much yet to make me feel proud. But I'm sure I will before the day is over. It's early yet...

mmmm. Farmer's markets are the best! I havn't had artichokes for a long time......those look so good! I've never watched Biggest loser (no cable), but I do agree you have to approach a workout with some purpose! Good for you running 4 miles! I poop out at 3....I'll have to push a bit harder :)

I absolutely love The Biggest Loser too. I've actually been slacking with my workouts lately but this week, after watching TBL, I finally got the motivation back to get going again.

These people work out for up to 8 hours a day and their routines are so much more strenuous than mine is, so why am I not just doing it?

Those people - and Jillian - really inspire me.

I'm glad to read this post. I haven't exercised since Monday (kinda hurt my arm so I was taking it easy) and today I've been really apathetic about working out after work, but you've inspired me.

My arm is feeling better and while its always nice to relax and be lazy, it feels even better to do so after a tough workout :)

Going from 3 miles 5 days a week to 4 miles 5 days a week IS a huge difference. That's a difference between 15 and 20 miles weekly!

Today I dragged myself all over southern New York State and still got my butt to yoga, so I'm trying to tell myself that was good.

I want your lunch!

No comment on what I've done today :P Unless a whole heap of housework and cooking count (yes, I am lazy).

mmm artichokes! yours look so fresh and delicious, i haven't had one in tooo long!
oh and way to go with pushing yourself at the gym! it reminds me of this dalai lama quote i saw recently (sorry im a bit obsessed haha but they're just so positive!) saying basically how "we are our own master" soo true, and you've definitely proven it :)
the day has just begun for me..but i've got a lot on my agenda for the day so i'm sure i'll be quite proud with my ending :)
